Shirley Marie Arthur-Crawford, formerly of Ghent went to meet her Savior on Monday, September 28, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Mrs. Crawford was a 1956 Graduate of Richmond High School and graduated from Beckley College. She worked at Beckley Manufacturing and was a secretary at Ghent Elementary School, then later as a kindergarten aide at Ghent Elementary School. Mrs. Crawford served as a secretary/treasurer, and was a former Sunday School Teacher at the Ghent Missionary Baptist Church. She also sang in the church choir for many years.

Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bethlehem Chapter Number 71 of Beckley. She had been residing with her daughter Stephanie in Richlands, NC for almost two years, where she became a member of the Community Christian Church in Richlands. She loved angels, flowers, reading, painting, her Kindle, and watching QVC. But most of all she loved her Lord and her family. Mom read in her Bible every day. She has had a hard time with her health, but she is no longer sick or in pain. We all loved her so very much and will miss her, but we know we will be with her again one day. Thank you so much Allen, Stephanie, and Ali for taking such good care of “Nannie.” She loved being there with you. Goodbye for now “Mommamiasangria.”

Born at Bragg, WV, on December 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Russell Arthur (1910-1997) and Marie Bragg-Arthur (1919-2000). She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin "Dee" Crawford (1934-2008) whom she married on May 11, 1956 (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1956, Page 472, Application Date: April 28, 1956); by two brothers, Wendell Blaine Arthur (1947-1984) and Willard B. Meadows (1936-1992), by an infant brother (Deceased), and by two great grandchildren Unnamed Infant Shaw (Deceased) and Jackson Alexander Shaw (Deceased).

Mrs. Crawford is survived by her four children, Elaine Crawford-Smith & husband Tim Smith of Cool Ridge, Larry Delaine Crawford (1960-2020) & wife Janet Crawford of Ghent, Jeffery Blaine Crawford & wife Carolyne Crawford of Owensboro, KY, and Stephanie Jayne Crawford-Page & husband Allen Page of Richlands, NC; her brothers, Harold Arthur, Robert, and Dale Arthur; her sisters, Sue Bragg, Sharon Bragg, and Debra Clay; sisters-in-law Carolyn Meadows, Gwendolyn Arthur-Cooper, Lena Hatcher, and Mae Underwood; her grandchildren; Timothy and Jeremy Smith, Samantha Crawford Shaw, and Jessica Crawford and Alexandria Page; four great grandchildren, Ty Shaw, Ryder Shaw, Hailey-Rian Shaw, and Holden Shaw.
