Silva, Shirley M. (nee Santos), devoted wife and best friend of Edward H. Silva Sr. for 70 years. Beloved mother of Cynthia M. Eickman, Edward H. (Barbara) Silva Jr., Margaret M. (Daniel) Perry, Gail R. (Cyril) Urbancic, Eileen D. (Daniel) Staub, Paul C. (Emily) Silva and former daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Silva) Wilson. She was the adored Nana (Nini) of Kristen (Eickman) Miller, (the late) David and (the late) Paul Eickman, Jenna Garcia, Edward Peery, Courtney Arens, Cyril (Chip) and Charles Edward Urbancic, Samantha DeLorimci, Daniel (DJ) Staub, Kelly, Lindsay, Jack and Evelyn Marie Silva and Nini to great grandsons, Robert (Bobby) William Miller III, Henry Edward Miller and Haiden Arens and great granddaughter Caroline Arens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary (nee Farley) Santos, brothers, Charles, Edward, Kenneth, Roger and Frederick and sister Dorothy.

Shirley was born during the Great Depression in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 2, 1932. Her Mother died when Shirley was seven and her father, Charles raised Shirley and her six siblings.

Shirley attended Lowell Public Schools and in 1950 graduated from Lowell High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was a majorette in the Lowell High School Baton Twirlers Organization.

She met her future husband, Edward H. Silva in high school and they were married at Sacred Heart Church, Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 31, 1954. When he went on active duty in 1955 to Fort Sill, Oklahoma she accompanied him after their daughter, Cynthia, was born in March 1955. Their son, Edward Jr, was born in February 1956 at Fort Sill Hospital. Shirley often said “there is no experience to compare to having a baby in an army hospital”. The two years spent in Lawton, Oklahoma, 3000 miles from home and family, were a life changing event for their young family.

Shirley was a “stay at home mom” and although she grew up without a mother for her role model, her loving influence and inspiration was passed onto her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley was best friend to her four daughters and seven granddaughters. After her marriage, her mother-in-law, Margaret Silva, assumed the role of mother and always considered her one of her daughters.

Her biggest thrill in life was enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was an avid tennis player, was a member of the Queen City Racquet Club and made many friends during her playing years.

She was an active member at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Sharonville, Ohio.

After Ed’s retirement they enjoyed their travels to Ireland, Europe and many fine places in the United States.
