Oregon Solon Dies Suddenly

State Senator Lee Patterson, 57, Portland, died suddenly from a heart ailment Sunday evening in a summer home at Welches on the west slope of Mt. Hood.

The Multnomah county senator, son of the late Governor Isaac L. Patterson of Oregon, was reported to have complained of a shoulder pain while visiting at the summer home of his brother-in-law, George Brice, Seattle. The pain yielded to heat treatment and he said he felt better, but death came suddenly soon after. Mrs. Patterson and the Brices were with him at the time.

Senator Patterson, and independent real estate appraiser, was a director of the Oregon Mutual Savings bank.

He was first elected to the state senate for the 1943 session, and was chairman of the senate military affairs committee in the 1947 session.

A native of Oregon, he was born at Salem October 6, 1889.

Lee Patterson

Lee Patterson of Portland, son of the late Governor Isaac L. Patterson, brought to the state senate in its last three sessions those qualities of sincerity, industry and friendliness which had marked his business career and his family life. It is doubtful if Senator Patterson ever considered the possibilities of higher political office. He went to the state senate to fulfill what he felt to be his obligation in state government and that he did well.

Senator Patterson’s greatest legislative interests were in the protection of veteran’s rights, the advancement of the financial structure of government and the betterment of business, industry and labor. His popularity among his colleagues reflected his equable temperament and his open-minded approach to complex legislative problems. His untimely death is a loss to the entire state.
