Agnes was born in Monticello, Florida on February 22, 1922 to the late Elizabeth Hargrave and John Martin, Jr.
She was married for thirty years to the late Rev. James Alexander, Sr. and together they raised ten children. Agnes was a faithful housewife and she enjoyed taking care of her children. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching others indulge in her scrumptious home cooked meals. After her husband retired., Agnes began working outside of the home where she was dedicated to providing for the needs of others as she went into various homes and provided private duty healthcare/home services.
Agnes was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for sixty-five years where she joyfully served on the Stewardess Board #1. She served several years as President and Treasurer of her board. She also served as a prayer warrior. she loved her church family and looked forward to attending church until her declining health prevented her attendance.
She was the youngest of four siblings (Willie, Ethel, Annie Mae and Frank); all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Phillip.
