Edward Newkirk appears to have been a talented house painter. One article says he had returned home to paint the wood inside his brother William's new home, so we can assume he did the finish work on the trim in the Newkirk mansion at 321 Western Avenue. He also seems to had a problem with alcohol abuse, as he talked about it and gave temperance talks in Connersville. He died at the home of his sister Fannie, and his funeral was held there.
