Frank Rades, aged 75, pioneer resident of Manitowoc County, passed away at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Seyfert, in the town of Meeme nine
miles east of Kiel on Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock, after being ill for
about two weeks.
The deceased was a son of the late John and Augusta Rades and was born in
Koenig Province, Pommerania, Germany, on May 14, 1857. At the age of 12 years
he migrated to America with his parents who located on a farm two miles
northeast of Kiel, now owned by William Buchholz, a nephew of the deceased.
He was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmina Goedecke of the town of Meeme
in 1877 and the couple located on a farm in that town ship where they have
always resided.
To the couple were born nine children of whom four preceded their father in
death. They are; Mrs. Gottlieb Liebe, Mrs. Frank Born, a son William, and
another daughter who passed away in infancy. His wife passed away December
21, 1916.
Survivors are five children, three daughters; Mrs. Abraham Blum of Eau Claire,
Mrs. Samuel Blum of Kiel, and Mrs. George Seyfert of the town of Meeme, and
two sons, John and Herman, both of the town of Meeme; 24 grandchildren, six
great grandchildren and one sister Mrs. M. C. Peters of Black Creek.
The body was taken to the C. J. Meiselwiz funeral establishment at Kiel were
it was prepared for burial and it was removed to the home of his daughter,
Mrs. George Seyfert in the town of Meeme until the time of funeral Monday
afternoon at one o'clock when brief services were conducted at the residence
and at 1:30 o'clock with services at the Bethel's Reformed church in the town
of Herman. The Rev. William Billmann officiated and burial was made in the
Union Cemetery near Louis Corners, in the family lot.
