MARILYN G. SHIMEK
(1938 - 2010)

Marilyn G. Shimek, age 71, of 431 Madison St., Reedsville, died early Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah.

Marilyn was a St. Nick baby, born on Dec. 6, 1938, to the late Edward W. and Lillian (Wenzel) Vesely. She came home from the hospital wrapped in a red stocking, and grew up on a farm on Goodwin Road in rural Reedsville. She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Reedsville High School with the class of 1957. A very special high school memory is that she received her diploma from her father, Eddie, on graduation day, who served on the school board at the time.

After high school Marilyn worked at Metal Ware Corp. in Two Rivers for nine years. On May 13, 1967, she married Alvin Shimek and moved to Milwaukee where her two children were born. In 1970 Marilyn moved back to Reedsville and resided with her father, Eddie Vesely. Together, they worked at St. Mary's doing janitorial work during the school year. He passed away in 1985. Marilyn also worked with the Head Start program in Reedsville for seven years during the summers, and through the years was very involved with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was also a 4-H leader when her children were involved with 4 H. In 1978, Marilyn started driving school bus for Brandt Buses. She was very proud of having driven for 23 years without an accident. She loved the job and the kids. She retired on Nov. 6, 2001.

In the mid '60s, Marilyn enjoyed shooting trap on Mrs. Porter's team that shot at the Reed-Way Sportsman's Club; she enjoyed league bowling for 16 years; she loved to play cards, especially with her card playing friends at the Equity and at the Manor, and she enjoyed going to lunch with her friends who were known as the "Classic Luncheon" friends from the class of '57. She was a member of the Catholic Knights for over fifty years and a longtime member of the Reedsville Lioness Club.

Marilyn loved her grandchildren and the time she got to spend with them. She would often share memories of the farming days with her grandkids and her family. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, many friends, and her loving cat, Patience.

Marilyn is survived by her two children: Matt (Ann) Shimek of Minnesota; Mary Jean Shimek and partner Becky Bauer of Menasha; her four loving
grandchildren: Ian, Olivia, Sophia, and Simon; her loving cat: Patience; and special friends: Peggy Maertz, Julia Kopecky and Margaret Krause. She was preceded in death by her parents and a special friend: Clarence Koerth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Holy Family Parish, Brillion. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Matt Simonar, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Reedsville.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Parish in Brillion from 5 until 8 p.m., Sunday evening, Aug. 29, 2010. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday morning, after 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials in Marilyn's name may be made to the W.I.L.L.
