Alfred Gonzalez age 89, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, February 15, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Gonzalez; daughters, Sandra Gonzalez and Marlette (Michael) Gonzalez-Hollier; sisters, Ophelia (late Roberto) Perez, Estella (late Eliseo) Navarro and Evangelina Navarro; many nieces, nephews, dear friends and canine companion, Chico. Alfred was born December 25, 1930 in East Chicago, IN to the late Alfredo and Aurora Gonzalez. He proudly served our country in the US Army as a Corporal with the 7th Infantry Division and the 17th Infantry Regiment A Company and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Alfredo retired from Inland Steel with 42 years of service. He enjoyed the Chicago Black Hawks, the Chicago Bears and spending time at the stables with the horses. Alfred was a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. He lived a good long life...with his wife! Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Rev. Robert Stroup officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
