Elizabeth Desiree "Betty" Sand, age 94, formerly of 10819 Tannery Rd., Two Rivers, entered into eternal life, Monday evening June 23, 2014 at the Wisteria Haus in Two Rivers.

Betty was born January 24, 1920 in Two Rivers to the late Herman and Elizabeth Schmidt Jaeckel and has been a lifelong area resident. She was a 1938 graduate of the Washington High School. Betty married Elmer C. Sand, October 24, 1942 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. He preceded her in death November 11, 1997. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Mishicot Co-op for 50 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, and a member of the Altar Society of the church. She was also a member of the Homemaker's Association. Faith was a very important part of her life. She taught religion classes at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for many years. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law: Patricia Lawler, and her fiance: David Greenwood, both of Two Rivers, Janis and Thomas Freis, of Newton; one son, David Sand; 5 grandchildren: Adam Freis, Elizabeth "Libby" Freis and her special friend: Joe Gangl, Stephanie Freis, Emily Freis, and Claire Lawler. She is further survived by one sister: Rhoda (Russell) Kollberg, of Sturgeon Bay, two sisters-in-law: Claudine Jaeckel, of Kiel, and Ethel Sand, of Two Rivers, and by her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she was also preceded in death by a twin infant brother: Edward, a brother: Alan Jaeckel, and a sister: Charlotte (James) Johnson, and by her brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law: Raymond and Luella Sand, Clarence Sand, Ralph and Helen Bertler, Charles and Gladys Gesser, Henry and Evelyn Sand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, with the Reverend John Becker officiating, with entombment to follow in the Knollwood Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church, until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.

Betty's family would like to express a very special thank you to the entire staff of the Aurora VNA Hospice, and the Wisteria Haus, of Two Rivers for their care during her residency at Wisteria Haus. Your love and kindness will always be remembered.
