Rodney Procter, Prominent Area Resident, Dies
Rodney Procter, 78, of 130 Banyan Rd., Palm Beach, died Sun day afternoon at Orleton Farm, Stockbridge, Mass., according to information furnished by a son-in-law, Bishop Anson Phelps Stokes, Jr., Brookline, Mass. Well known throughout this area, Procter formerly was secretary of the Gulf Stream Golf Club at Delray Beach. He was a member of the Union Club and the Yale Club, New York City. A grandson of William Procter, who founded the Procter & Gamble Co., he was a son of the late Harley T. and Mary Elizabeth Sanford Procter. He was born at Cincinnati, Ohio. A brother, the late William Procter, formerly resided at Palm Beach. Procter graduated from the Yale Sheffield Scientific School in 1903. Actively Interested in the work of the Episcopal Church, Procter served as junior warden and later as senior warden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Stock bridge, over a period of 19 years He was a trustee of the New York Protestant Episcopal City Mission Society. Of late years, he had interested himself in the restoration of the 13th Century Episcopal Church at Orleton, Herefordshire, England, where both his great-great-grandfather and great - great - great - grandfather served as vicars. During World War I, Procter was connected with the Military Intelligence Division of the General Staff of the War Dept. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Beatrice Sterling Procter Palm Beach; a sister, Miss Sanford Procter, Wilhamstown, Mass.; two daughters, Mrs. Anson Phelps Stokes, Jr., Brookline, Mass., and Mrs. Peter H. Frelinghuysen, Morristown, N.J., and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. today at the Paul's Episcopal Church, Stockbridge. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, New York City. The family requested that flowers be omitted.
