Roman Paul Broeckert, 93, a lifelong St. Nazianz resident died on Feb. 9, 2018 at St. Mary's Home of Felician Village in Manitowoc. The funeral will be at 11 am on Saturday at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Patrick Nelson S.D.S. Roman will then be laid to rest in the church cemetery where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 477. The family will greet relatives and friends form 9:30 am until 10:45 am on Saturday at the church.

Roman was born on June 28, 1924 in St. Nazianz, son of the late Edward ad Clara Gutman Broeckert. He attended Valders High School, graduated in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. On May 6, 1950 Roman married the former Eleanor Okonek at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in rural Spooner. She preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 2017. He was employed as a printing press operator with Salvatorian Publishing Department for 20 years and then at Lakeshore Press in Sheboygan for 23 years, retiring in 1988. Roman was lifelong member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, a charter member of the St. Nazianz Volunteer Fire Dept. and served on the firing squad for 50 years for American Legion Post 477. He volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels as well as for Mission Warehouse in New Holstein. A highlight in Roman's recent years was being included in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in honor of his service.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, James Broeckert of Two Rivers; Donald and Susan Broeckert of Orlando, Fla; Steven and Ellen Broeckert of Middleton; Paul Broeckert of Denver and St. Nazianz; Kenneth and Annie DeRose-Broeckert of Peachtree City, Ga.; Ann and Charles Tindel of Louisville, Tenn.; and Robert and Karen Broeckert of Appleton. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister, Imelda "Tillie" Scharenbroch of Sheboygan and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Broeckert and Alice Okonek. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Alphonse Broeckert, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sister Roman Broeckert and Hilary and Norbert Seipel; four brothers and their spouses, Rembert "Humpty" and Angeline Broeckert, Bernard and Ruth Broeckert, Arthur and Joan Broeckert and Edward Broeckert and one brother-in-law, Andew Scharenbroch.

The Christiansen and Deja Funeral Home in Valders is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roman's name to St. Gregory Catholic School in St. Nazianz.
