She was born September 1, 1927, in Castle Hayne, NC, to the late Alfred Cicero and Christine Love Henry Batson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Keter” William Spencer; sisters, Cleon, Goldie, Pearl, Gladys, Doris, Arlene, Nell and Miriam and brothers, Pleasant, Harley and Royal.
Myrtle was the youngest of 12 children. During her life, Myrtle worked for Allen’s Farm Supply in Wilmington, Bell Telephone as a phone operator in Wilmington and the New Hanover County Schools Personnel Department. Myrtle was also an excellent ballroom dancer.
Survivors include her son, Gary Wayne Spencer (Dale); one grandson, Thomas Ryan Spencer; three great-grandchildren, JoeAnna Flores (Jonah) of Omaha, NE, Collin and Savannah of Wilmington, NC and many nephews and nieces.
