Nell Batson Spencer, 84, of Wilmington, died peacefully on her birthday, Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at home with her family.
She was born December 13, 1921, in Pender County, NC, daughter of the late Cicero R. Batson and Christine Love Henry Batson. Her husband of 26 years, Ernest Harold Spencer, Sr., preceded her in death.

Mrs. Spencer was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, the Ladies Auxiliary Arab Shrine Club and the American Business Women's Association.

Nell is survived by her daughter, Joy S. Hines and husband L. T. of Wilmington; her son, Ernest H. "Hal" Spencer, Jr. of Raleigh; granddaughter, Jacki S. Shodja and husband Kayvon; and great-grandson, Spencer Von Shodja, all of California; two sisters, Myrtle B. Spencer of Wilmington, and Miriam B. Phillips of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; many loving and devoted friends; and her faithful dog, "BeBe".
