OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Verne Lionel McDonald Sr., 65, of 81 Ocean Ave., this community, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at his home.
He was born in Merrill, Feb. 19, 1902, the son of Harry and Inez Gardner McDonald. He graduated from Merrill High School, attended Ricker College and graduated from a New York barbering school. McDonald came to this community in 1943 and at the time of his death operated a barber shop in Biddleford. He attended the Washington Avenue Methodist Church here.
In addition to his mother, a resident of Otisfield, he is survived by his widow, Fern Mildred Lord McDonald, this community; four sons, Verne Jr., Burlington, Vt.; Robert of Meriden, Conn.; Paul, this community and Glenn, Warwick, Mass,; one stepson, Reginald Larson of Maryland; three sisters, Mrs. Audrey Bern, Oxford; Mrs. Katherine Flint, Glenn Falls, N.Y. and Mrs. Madeline Drew, Meriden, Conn.; three brothers, Rex of Bangor, John of Phoenix, Ariz. and Rodney of St. Louis, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held of 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Dennett and Craig Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. Rev. Norman Catir, pastor of the Washington Avenue Methodist Church will officiate and interment will take place in Hersey Cemetery in the spring.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
