Nellie was born in Oklahoma, the oldest child and only daughter of Dick and Nancy (Fisher) Carey. She was married to George R. Thomas and they lived in Wagoner, Oklahoma for many years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. She, along with her husband, owned and operated a restaurant in Wagoner. Later, she was a cook at the Wagoner Care Center.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, her daughters, her parents and her brothers. She was survived by two sons and four grandchildren.
