Actress. She is best remembered for her breakthrough role of 'Dora Spenlow' in the film, "David Copperfield" in 1922. The film which was based on author Charles Dickens' classic novel was directed by A.W. Sandberg. A star of Denmark's early silent film era, she appeared in some 13 silent films and two tale films under the stage name of Karina Bell. Born Karen Hansen in Hellerup, Denmark, the daughter of a painter, she studied ballet with Emile Walbom's prestigious ballet school as a child. She was later discovered by the author Emma Gad and her son, filmmaker Urban Gad, who ultimately gave her the stage name of Karina Bell and immediately cast her in the role of 'Tornerose' at the New Theater in 1919. In 1920, she made her film debut when director Carl Dreyer cast her in the role of ' Naimi" in his film, "Leaves From Satan's Books." After the success of "David Copperfield" in 1922, she went on to play the role of 'Daisy' in the 1926 film, "Klovnen" (also known as "Clown"), a film which was also directed by A.W. Sandberg. Her other film credits include, " The Amazing Elopement" (1924), "Little Dorritt" (1924), "Maharadjahens yndlingshustru III" (1926), "The Last Night" (1928), and "Phantome des Glücks" (1930). She also appeared in summer revue in 1926, and sang in Ludvig Brandstrup's show, "Girl Tread Carefully." In 1933, she appeared in her last two films, "Nyhavn 17", and "r raske paper." She retired from acting that same year to start a family. In 1934, she married the brewing magnate, Knud Parkov. After his death in 1949, she joined the board of Wiibroes Brewery in Helsingor, Denmark, and was eventually named the company's Chief Executive Officer (or CEO). In 1964, she sold her shares in the brewing company to Carlsberg and Tuborg, but remained on the board until her death on June 5, 1979, at age of 80, in Helsingor, Denmark.
