Actress. She is best remembered for her role as 'Mary Hosford' in the Lionel Barrymore film, "The Power Of The Press" in 1914. She was born Lily Pederson (or Pedersen) in Passaic, New Jersey in 1893 or 1894 (some sources say 1893, 1895 or 1898), and besides Betty Gray, she also used the stage name of Beata Gray. A star of the silent film era, she began her career as a model for such artists as Clarence Underwood, Harrison Fisher, and Charles Dana Gibson. She then appeared in vaudeville and on the stage. Some sources say she also appeared in the Ziegfeld Follies but this has never been established. She made her film debut in the comedy short film, "Gee, My Pants" as 'Dr. Gibbs' Sweetheart', co-starring alongside Crane Wilbur as 'Dr. Gibbs' in 1912. Over the next several years she was in high demand from studios and went on to appear in other films including, " The Lass Of Gloucester" (1912), "The Light That Failed" (1912), "The Country Boy" (1912), "The Beach Combers" (1912), "The Cheapest Way" (1913), "The Parting Eternal" (1913), "The Price Of Silence" (1913), "The Big Scoop" (1914), "In The Nick Of Time" (1914), "The Mystery Of Man" (1915), "Dora Thorne" (1915), "Pique" (1916), "The Timid Mr. Tootles" (1916), "His Wife's Mistakes" (1916), and "Madelaine Morel" (1916). Her last role was as 'Ann Thompson Pershing' in the biographical film, "Why America Will Win" (1918), which tells the life of General John J. Pershing from his childhood up until he becomes an adult in command of the forces during World War I. Her promising career was cut short when she died from the effects of the Spanish Flu during the epidemic that ravaged the United States and other countries between 1918 and 1920. Her death date is listed as April 20, 1919, but other sources say June 15, 1919. She was between the ages of 21 and 25 years of age at the time of her death. She was interred in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson, New Jersey.
