Obituary for Mr. Herschel L. Shaw

Herschel L. Shaw, 80, of Elizabethtown, passed away at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Herschel was born November 22, 1939, in Casey, Kentucky, the son of Russell C. and Alesa L. Bernard Shaw. On October 15, 1967, he married Shirleen Bassett.

Mr. Shaw served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He retired from Cummins Engine Company as an Inspector after 30 years of service. Herschel drove school bus in his later years for Bartholomew Consolidated School Coporation. He was also a longtime farmer and enjoyed being in the great outdoors. He loved his wife and family however, his second love was for his 57' Chevy.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirleen; sons, Herschel M. Shaw of Columbus, Royce A. Shaw of Freetown; sisters, Linda D. Morrison of Toledo, Ohio, Brenda S. Power of Wako, Texas; brothers, Larry C. (Sandra) Shaw of Danville, Alabama, Gary P. (Rita) Shaw of Florence, Texas, Bruce C. (Angela) Shaw of Ardmore, Alabama; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty H. Thoni and brother, James H. Shaw.
A public graveside service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Garland Brook Cemetery with Rev. Marcus D. Speer officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
