Professional Football Player. For four seasons (1963 to 1966, and in 1967) he played at the position of wide receiver in the Canadian Football League with the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was also a member of the Grey Cup Winning Team that won the championship game in 1967. His teammates at the time included such greats as Tommy Joe Coffey, Ron Brewer, Gene Ceppetelli, John Cimba, Doug Mitchell, Stewart Stover, Hal Patterson, Roger Lalonde, Billy Ray Locklin, and Jon Hohman. His total Canadian Football League career consisted of some 68 games played, catching 154 passes for 3,135 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns. His other honors include being named the 1963 Canadian Football League East All-Star, the 1964 Canadian Football League East All-Star, the 1965 Canadian Football League All-Canadian Football League Star, the 1965 Canadian Football League East All-Star, and the 1966 Canadian Football League East All-Star. Born Theodore Watkins in Chicago, Illinois, he played collegiate football with the Pacific Tigers while attending the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. During the 1960s, he spent some time in Toronto, Ontario, and became involved with the Black Radical Group, the Afro American Progressive Association (or AAPA) in the Black Power Movement. On June 2, 1968, just weeks before the beginning of the 1968 Canadian Football League season he was shot and killed during an alleged liquor store holdup in Stockton, California.
