John Hofferber, 57, assistant master mechanic of the American Crystal Sugar Company, died Saturday morning in a local hospital. Mr. Hofferber suffered a heart attack earlier Saturday morning at his home, 311 South Oak.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Dr. Frank A. Peyton, pastor of Pilgrim Congregational Church will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cem.

Mr. Hofferber had lived all of his life in Nebraska. He was born Nov. 8, 1895, at Culbertson to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hofferber. When he was a child, the family moved to Norfolk, where he grew to manhood.

Mr. Hofferber came to Grand Island and began his apprenticeship as a machinist at the Union Pacific shops. Later he as employed as a machinist by the railroad at Columbus and at Omaha, as well as in the local shops. He left the service of the railroad in 1925 and was employed 11 years by the Davis Engineering Works. In 1936 he entered the employ of the American Crystal Sugar Company.

Mr. Hofferber was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Mr. Hofferber is survived by his wife; three children, Kenneth Hofferber, Grand Island, Mrs. Wendell Keller, Ravenna and Miss Nancy Hofferber, at home; four brothers, George Hofferber, Tacoma, Wash., Jacob and Henry Hofferber, both of Norfolk; and Fred Hofferber, Wakefield; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Craft of Grand Island and Mrs. Marie Kruger of Hoskins, Neb; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Adam Hofferber and two infant sisters.

Funeral services for John Hofferber, assistant master mechanic at the American Crystal Sugar Company, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Linvingston-Sondermann funeral home.

Dr. Frank A. Peyton, pastor of Pilgrim's Congregational Church, conducted the service. Mrs. Donald Duryea sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Night There". Mrs. Walter Lauritsen played the accompaniment and the organ prelude and recessional.

Pallbearers were John Brehm, Henry Liebsack, Jr., John Heimbuck, Burel O. Paul, Fred Hehnke and A. T. Tagge. Burial was in Grand Island Cem.
