(1930 - 2010)

Jean M. Hamacher, age 80, of Manitowoc, died on Monday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2010, at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1930, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Gallager) Scheurell. Jean attended St. Boniface Catholic School and then graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1942. Jean enrolled and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Green Bay. On Oct. 17, 1953, she married Donald Hamacher at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2010. She was employed with Norfolk General Naval Hospital in Norfolk, VA. She then was employed with Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, as Director and Head Nurse of the Coronary Intensive Care Unit, which she started, retiring in 1995. Then in 1997, she was employed with WalMart Pharmacies where she retired for the second time in 2008. Also, Jean was the nurse for the Royal Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. in Manitowoc from 1970 - 1977. She was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and loved to do crossword puzzles.

Survivors include a daughter: Barbara Hamacher, Manitowoc; a son: Brian Hamacher, Stoughton; four grandchildren: Amanda (Abraham) Thompson, Wheeler, Craig (Priscilla) Giese, Mishicot, SGT. Patrick (Lacey) Kopecky, Fort Riley, Kan., Donald J. Hamacher, Stoughton; a step grandchild: Kristy (Robert) Zahn, Manitowoc; great-grandchildren: Alexander W. Kronfrost, Manitowoc, Daniel J. Giese, Faith M. Thompson, Emily E. Thompson, all of Wheeler; Sean M. Kopecky and Keghan P. Kopecky, both of Fort Riley, Kan.; stepgreat-grandchildren: Kyle J. Zahn, Zachary D. Zahn and Christopher J. Zahn, all of Manitowoc. Also surviving are three brothers and a sister-in-law: John (late Deloris) Scheurell, Manitowoc, Allen (Connie) Scheurell, Manitowoc, and Robert Scheurell, Milwaukee. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother-in-law: Gerald Hamacher; a brother-in-law: Francis Hamacher; a sister-in-law: Katherine Hamacher Krause; a nephew: David Scheurell; and an infant great-granddaughter: Catilyn Giese.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Viertel. Cremation will occur after the service at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and Jean will be laid to rest at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, until 10:45 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home & All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
