He was the son of David H. Harrington and Sarah Van Fossen Harrington.
Per the 1900 Census for Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland, he married Eliza Catherine Baer about 1876.
They were the parents of seven children with three living
On Wednesday, November 18, 1906, he married Mary C. Brookey, daughter of Mrs. Theodore Brookey at Frederick, Maryland. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Charles F. Steck.
They had no children.

Was Prominent Merchant Of City And Later Postmaster Of Frederick
Adolphus H. Harrington, former Postmaster of Frederick and Census Supervisor of the Sixth Congressional District, died last night shortly before midnight at his home, 316 East Third Street, after an illness of nearly a year. He was 62 years of age. Just a few days ago Mr. Harrington was stricken with paralysis, which resulted in his death last night at 11:25 o'clock.

For more than a quarter of a century Mr. Harrington was one of the leading wholesale merchants of Frederick. Mr. Harrington received his early education in the public schools and later attended a Catholic institution at Austin, Texas. In the early eighties Mr. Harrington was associated with a drug firm in Austin, Texas.

In 1875 Mr. Harrington returned to Frederick County where he launched into the wholesale and retail grocery business. He opened an establishment at the corner of North Market and Fifth Streets and in a few years had built up a thriving business, which in later years was recognized as one of the leading firms of Frederick. In 1900 Mr. Harrington was appointed Census Supervisor of the Sixth Congressional District of Maryland by President William McKinley.

Named Postmaster In 1907
In 1907 he was named Postmaster of Frederick by President Theodore Roosevelt. When selected head of the post office of Frederick County, Mr. Harrington closed out his grocery business. At the expiration of his term as Postmaster of Frederick, Mr. Harrington entered into the real estate and insurance business. With him was associated Mr. Eugene Albaugh. A few years later Mr. Harrington sold out his interest in the firm, which was known as Albaugh and Harrington.

Was Political Leader
Mr. Harrington was an active worker in the Republican organization of Frederick County. Possessing a strong and commanding personality he was one of the best known men of the county. Mr. Harrington was an active member of King David Lodge, IOOF. He was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran church and was for 21 years Assistant Superintendant of the Lutheran Sunday School. For six years he was a member of the Lutheran Church Council.

Mr. Harrington was twice married, his first wife being Miss Eliza Catherine Baer, who died in 1906. By this marriage were the following children: Leonard S. Harrington, Harvey A. Harrington and Franklin H. Harrington.

In 1908 Mr. Harrington was married to Miss Mollie Brookey. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Harrington is survived by his mother. The funeral arrangements have not been made. They will be announced later.
