WILLIAM K. SCHMALFELDT
(1924 - 2010)

William K. Schmalfeldt, age 85, of 2836 S. 16th St., Sheboygan, died on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.

He was born in Manitowoc on Sept. 5, 1924, the son of the late Gilbert and Hattie Hayward Schmalfeldt. William attended local schools in the Manitowoc area. In August of 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Jeanette Dehne in Newton. William was a United States Army veteran, serving his country in the African and European theatres during World War II. He was employed at Kingsbury Brewery in Sheboygan, Manitowoc Engineering and Hayssen Manufacturing, retiring in 1985. William also worked part-time as school and city bus driver for Sheboygan Transit. William was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Sheboygan and a lifetime member of VFW Post 9156. In his free time, William enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife: Jeanette of Sheboygan; children: William T. Schmalfeldt of Plymouth, Darlene (Tom) Bigler of Sheboygan Falls, Barbara (Tom) Buchner of Sheboygan, and Mark Schmalfeldt of Sheboygan Falls. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Phyllis Boldt; and two daughters-in-law: Mary Jo Schmalfeldt and Lucy Schmalfeldt.

A funeral service for William will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 7 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1248 Lincoln Ave., Sheboygan, with the Rev. Gregory S. Whelton officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in William's name. William's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Froedtert Hospital for the compassion and care given to him.
