Gerald Barragan, 63, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"On behalf of the Barragan family, we would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support," Barragan's family said in a prepared statement. "We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we honor my dad, Gerald “El Coyote” Barragan. Thank you."

Barragan was a graduate of Moody High School and served in the US Navy.

COVID-19 in TDCJ - Terrell in Rosharon, Texas

Gerald Barragan died May 5, 2020 at Hospital Galveston he was 62 years old. Barragan suffered from a number of pre-existing medical conditions. He was transported from the Terrell Unit to Hospital Galveston on April 26th suffering from possible COVID-19 symptoms. Barragan has served 11 months of a sentence out of Kendall County. Barragan’s family declined an autopsy but the presumed cause of death is COVID-19 pneumonia.
