Elijah Hall Gray, son of David Gray and Christina Edgerton Gray. He married Rebecca Lynn. They had 4 children, Mary A Gray, Leonidas Washington Gray, Emma Gray and Granville French Gray, He was active in the Quaker Church. Civil War records show he joined the military in 1861 as a private, in the 33rd Illinois Infantry and rose to the rank of major during his service of 4 years. At the time of his death he worked as a blacksmith in the carriage shop of Messrs. Knowles & Co. Records show he died of "internal congestion". Civil War military records show his military headstone was made and given to the cemetery in 1879. He was an older brother to the famous inventor Elisha Gray.
