(i) married Elizabeth Bushell on 16 February 1621 in his hometown and had 2 children
(ii) married Elizabeth Southworth (nee Tyldesley) 14 Aug 1628 at St Michael le Belfrey, York and had 6 children.

Lancashire Civil War

Adam Mort a Royalist supporter of the King was slain in defence of the borough by Parliamentary forces on 9 February 1642.

On 9 February 1642 Sir John Seaton led Parliament's troops to Preston which in general espoused the King’s side. They found it to be defended by a brick wall, but made an assault with great courage and after two hours' fighting captured the town. The mayor, Adam Mort, who had threatened to burn the place down, beginning with his own dwelling, rather than suffer it to fall into Parliamentary hands died of his wounds in the ensuing battle.

In 1646 Adam's son Seth Mort married Elizabeth Massey the great grand daughter of Anne Parr (Countess of Pembroke + lady-in-waiting to Queens of King Henry VIII - Sister of Queen Catherine Parr).
