J.R. Campbell, age 79, of Cherryville, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at his home.

He was a native of Lincoln County, born June 27, 1923 and was the son of Winfield Scott and Mary Fredell Campbell.

He worked with Carolina Freight Carriers as warehouse foreman for 21 years, he retired as a security guard with Guardmark of Charlotte, N.C.

He was a veteran of World War II U.S. Army.

J.R was a member of First Baptist Church, Cherryville.

He was also a member of Woodmen of the World, Lodge 579, Cherryville.

Graveside services: City Memorial Cemetery.

Burial: City Memorial Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Annie Campbell; brothers, William W. and W. Scott Campbell.
