She was born March 4, 1937 in Fort Valley, Ga. to the late William Claude and Ida Mae Barnes Stone. She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
She dedicated her working life to one of the noblest professions, that of a nurse. She worked for 44 years in various hospitals and nursing homes. She began her career in LaGrange City-County Hospital and later served the defense department as a nurse following her husband who was in the military.
The final facility she served was Bluntstown Retirement Center in Florida where she was both nurse and a resident at the same time. As a patient she never lost her nursing skills and would correct young nurses on their technique when she thought they could do better.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, quilting and crocheting.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Hogalin (Gary) of Utah; four sons, Dennis James Rogers (Jeanerre) of South Carolina, Wendell Dean Rogers (Joanne) and Larry Rogers of LaGrange and William Joseph Key (Teresa) of California; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grand children and a number of other relatives and friends.
No services are planned at this time.
Stutts Funeral Home of Franklin, Ga. was in charge of arrangements.
Note: Successful lady was actually born in Fort Valley, Ga. to Connie Mae Purmort
and William James Barnes. Due to family conditions she was adopted about the age of two by William Claude and Ida Thomason Stone who loved and took care of her. Thank God for wonderful adoptive parents.
