In the 1920's he served as school superintendent for Tomahawk Public Schools in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He was a member of the editorial board of Who's Who in America, and was a former member of the University of Chicago Press.
Survived by his wife, daughter, three grandchildren, and one sister. His son Karl died in a Japanese POW camp in 1943.
