A sad case of suicide during temporary insanity occurred on Christs Pieces, Cambridge, on Saturday evening, when Mr. Francis Hamilton, of Petty Cury, shot himself with a revolver purchased of Mr. Tarrant, Sussex Street, the same afternoon. Eighteen months ago the deceased fell off an omnibus, and the accident seemed, to those who knew him, to have impaired his faculties. Nobody, apparently, saw him actually fire the revolver, but a young milkman named Palmer, heard the report whilst in Orchard Street, and following it up found deceased against one of the seats on Christ's Pieces with a bullet wound in his head and the revolver by his side. He appeared dead to the young man, and from the post mortem examination there can be no doubt that death was instantaneous. Nobody else was in the immediate neighbourhood at the time, so it is evident that Mr. Hamilton died by his own hand.
Mr. Hamilton's housekeeper says that deceased told her on Saturday that she would not see him any more.
