Third son of Rev. William P.Apthorp. Educated at Iowa College at Davenport and Wheaton College, Illinois.

1. "Thurston Genealogies" page 319 - "His body was sent home and buried at Port Byron, near his mother"
2. "Martyrs and Heroes of Illinois" page 199 - "His body was immediately taken to Chattanooga, and by the kindness of Capt. Vallette, of the same regiment, embalmed, placed in a metallic coffin, and sent to Davenport, Iowa, where a discourse was preached by Rev. W. Windsor, of the Congregational Church, and the day following the remains were take by his father to Port Byron, Ill. Some friends gathered at the grave, and after an appropriate prayer by the pastor, his body was lowered to its last resting place to await the Resurrection. He lies by the side of his mother, and near a former schoolmate of like age, who was killed in the battle of Murfreesboro."
