Isaiah was a Union soldier during the Civil War. He was 36 years old when he became ill with Typhoid Fever after returning home at Camp Morton. The camp was a Union military training ground and a Union prisoner-of-war camp in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, during the American Civil War.
Since the prisoner-of-war camp was filled to capacity with Confederate prisoners, Isaiah was sent home on sick furlough to recuperate from Typhoid. Shortly after arriving home, he contracted pneumonia and died a few days later, leaving behind his wife, and six small children.
