3863 Private A Waterhouse, 1st Battalion the (Sherwood Foresters) Derbyshire Regiment. He deployed with his battlion to South Africa for the Second Anglo Boer War, sailing from Suez on 28 Nov 1899, arriving in South Africa about 14 Dec 1899. They were sent to Sterkstroom, and afterwards Bushmanshoek, and remained in the Colesberg district until after the advance on Bloemfontein. They took part in the advance to Johannesburg as part of 21st Brigade and fought at the battle of Diamond Hill 11/12 Jun 1900. He died of disease at 38 Stationary Military Hospital, Rustenburg. He is also commemorated on the 1st Battalion the (Sherwood Foresters) Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment Boer War memorial in Church of St Mary, High Pavement, Nottingham, England (see: https://www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk/memorial/145916/).
