Alan Ray Buzzard, 49, of Monterey, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 in Pendleton County, W.Va. Born in Pearisburg, Va. on July 9, 1950 Mr. Buzzard was the first teacher of the DARE program in the state of Virginia, he served as a Buena Vista City Police Officer for ten years and was presently a Virginia State Trooper. Surviving are his father, Richard R. Buzzard and mother, Helen Buchanan Buzzard of Mountain Grove, Va.; wife, Faye W. Buzzard of Monterey, Va.; children, Michele Clark, Alan Wayne Buzzard, Gregory Kent Buzzard, all of Buena Vista; stepdaughters, Melissa Johnson, Lynchburg, Va., Brandy Johnson, Brookneal, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Michael Lynn and Donna Buzzard of Mountain Grove, Va.; grandchildren, Kainan Clark, Jarrod Clark, Logan McKenzie Buzzard, Brittany Fitzgerald, all of Buena Vista, Kelly Franklin of Lynchburg, Va.; special friends, Linda and Roger Arbogast of Monterey, Va.; several cousins and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 1999 at the McLaughlin Funeral Home with the Reverend Malcolm "Chip" Hill officiating. Interment to follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery with full state police honors. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home or anytime at the home of Mrs. Faye Buzzard.
