Mr. King served his country during World War I. He enlisted at Oxford, Granville County, North Carolina on July 22, 1918 with a rank of Private. Served in Main Tng Dep MG Tng Center in Camp Hancock, Georgia (near Augusta) until October 31, 1918, then, with Co A 51 MG Bn until January 14, 1919 and Co C 51 MG Bn until his honorable discharge on February 6, 1919.

After his discharge, he worked as a farmer and a carpenter.
