Captain S.(Samuel) Edge Co.D, 16,Regt, Ohio Vols. Organized at Camp Tiffin, Wooster Camp Chase, and Zanesville, Ohio, September 23-December 2, 1861. January 3-10, 1863.

Assault and capture of Fort Hindman , Arkansas Post, Siege of Vicksburg , Miss., May 18-July 4. 1863 Regiment mustered out October 31, 1864, expiration of term.

(per a Find-A Grave contributor)Captain Samuel Edge served as an "acting signal officer" supporting the 16th Army Corps, Army of the Tennessee, during the Atlanta Campaign. His report, dated September 12, 1864, provides a wealth of information about the operations of the army. He witnessed the death of General James B. McPherson during the Battle of Atlanta. The report is in the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion, Series I, Volume 38, Serial 74, pp. 119-123.
