Well Known Knightsville Man Expires After a Short Illness of Peritonitis
Was operated on for Appendicitis
Operation revealed that appendix had bursted, causing peritonitis to set in--Funeral will be held Monday
Charles Gulliford, a well-known citizen of Knightsville, died at a local hospital at 9:30 o'clock last night after a short illness of peritonitis at the age of 46 years.
The deceased was taken seriously ill about a week ago with an acute attack of appendicitis. He was rushed to the hospital and an operation immediately performed, but it was found that the appendix had become badly swollen and bursted and the poison which escaped caused peritonitis to set in, and little hope was held out for his recovery.
The deceased had resided at Knightsville all his life and was engaged in coal mining. He leaves many friends to regret his death. The deceased is survived by the widow, a daughter, Florence, and three sons, Dan, Charles, and Michael, the latter being in the U.S. Marines and is stationed in South Carolina. He is also survived by the aged mother, Mrs. Mary Gulliford of Knightsville, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Thomas Asdale, Mrs. Michael Parker, Mrs. Frank Fisher, Daniel Gulliford, all of Knightsville, and William Gulliford, of Jackson, Michigan.
The funeral services will be held at the residence Monday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of the Knightsville lodge of Odd Fellows of which he was a member. Internment at Harmony Cemetery.
