First Lady of Mexico. Beatriz Velasco Mendoza was the First Lady of Mexico from 1946 to 1952. She was the wife of Mexican president Miguel Alemán Valdés. In 1951 she founded the Patronato de la Clínica Primavera de Ortopedia, endorsed by the Secretariat of Health and Assistance to offer specialized medical care to children who had contracted polio, an epidemic that was causing havoc at that time.
