Gene Sipe, 88, Ottawa, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton.

He was born April 6, 1919, in Logan County, Okla., to Robert Bruce and Bessie Jane (Decker) Sipe.

He grew up in Logan County, Okla. He moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1942; Bakersfield, Calif., in 1943; Atascadero, Calif., in 1963; Williamsburg in 1977; and Ottawa in 1992.

He graduated from Meridian High School, Meridian, Okla., in 1938.

He served in the United States Army as a rifle instructor.

He was a member of the Homewood Christian Church and the American Legion in Williamsburg.

He worked as an iron worker for Union No. 155, Fresno, Calif., from 1942 until he retired in 1984. He also worked for Mo/Kan Iron Workers Union.

He married Marvel Lowery Dec. 6, 1939, at Guthrie, Okla. She survives.

Survivors also include daughters, Barbara Ruyle, Williamsburg, Viola O'Day, Salina, and Carolyn Corgan, Ava, Mo.; a son, Archie Sipe, Caliente, Calif.; a sister, Melba Haight, Escondido, Calif.; grandchildren, Missy Adamson, Kelly Hutchins, Michael Plowman, Phillip Plowman, Curtis Plowman, Sheila Twaroski, Archie Sipe, Darlene Urbanski, Travis Sipe and Diana Sipe; 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Howard Sipe and Archie Sipe; and sisters, Ruby Millard and Cindy Saffle.
