Funeral services for Winona native James E. "Buddy" Allen, age 79, were held at the First Presbyterian Church of Winona Monday, October 18, 1993 at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Harold Richardson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Allen was a lifetime resident of Winona and, along with his father, owned and operated Winona Ice and Coal Company and the Winona Cotton Gin, until his retirement. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winona and the American Legion.

He died Sunday, October 17, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital of complications from pneumonia.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susan Chambless Allen of Winona, formerly of Greenwood; two daughters, Mrs. Claire Allen Gaines of Winona and Mrs. Jane Allen May of Memphis, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Derek May, Edward May, Ashley Gaines and Heather Gaines.

Serving as pallbearers were John Tabor, Newton Tabor, Jerry Hoover, Jim Caffey, Phillip Evans, Ed Forsythe and James Tollison.

Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
