William Bush was a son of Justus Bush and Elizabeth Belden.

In 1759, William Bush fathered a "natural son" named William Knapp (b. 17 September 1760, son of Elizabeth Knapp; m. Esther Isaacs on 19 December 1784; d. 27 October 1825). This William Knapp has been confused in published works and internet postings with William Knapp (Jr.), a son of William and Margaret Knapp of Goshen, Orange County, New York, even though the latter was a generation older.

On 15 May 1761, William Bush and his brother Henry Bush jointly inherited the Bush gristmill and dock at Bush Harbor and lands at Horseneck which included the Justus Bush homestead and the Bush Family Burial Ground. When Henry Bush died in 1762, William Bush became the sole proprietor until 1802.

Medical doctor.

William Bush married
(1) Hannah Hayter of Manhattan on 31 May 1771 and
(2) Deborah Disbrow (widow of Seth Mead) on 11 January 1778.

Father of Rebecca Bush (m. John R. Cozine).

Mason of Union Lodge in Stamford 1780. Lodge master from 1788 to 1792.

Dr. William Bush died between 4 December 1801 (will) and 8 January 1802 (probate).

According to the Honorable Frederick Augustus Hubbard, writing under the pseudonym of "Ezekiel Lemondale" in 1894, William Bush was buried in the family cemetery on his property. His remains might have been transferred collectively as unidentified remains to the Bush plot in Section B of Putnam Cemetery when the family graveyard was dismantled in 1894.

William Bush's daughter Rebecca sold the Justus Bush homestead at Horseneck to flour merchant Abraham Benson Davis. Davis built the Mansion House (renamed the Green Court Inn in 1897) at the present-day site of the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich (4 Horseneck Lane; Greenwich, Connecticut 06830). The old colonial Bush farmhouse, situated west of it, was demolished about 1869.
