Dr. Dickson is said to be buried under the annex of the First Presbyterian Church at Asheville, Buncombe Co., North Carolina. Dr. Dickson was a graduate of Yale College in 1814. He was licensed to preach on June 13, 1823 and Ordained on March 20, 1825. He was a professor at Smith's College, in Ashville, North Carolina. Can anyone confirm his burial location?

John Field Pankow responded to my question on the burial location of John Dickson. He said: "In your memorial, you asked if anyone could confirm his burial place under the annex of the Presbyterian Church. Most of the graves in the cemetery that adjoined the church were moved to Riverside Cemetery in 1903. However, I believe there were a couple of graves where the stones had fallen and they didn't know where to dig to relocate them. I belonged to this church when I was a child, and remember friends of mine and I would scare ourselves by going to the door of the "haunted room" in the basement. It was a store room with some shelves with a few old gravestones on them. I am not sure if Rev. Dr. Dickson's grave was one of those or if his remains were removed to Riverside. I am attaching an article about the removal of the graves. As a child, I'd always thought the cemetery had been where our Sunday School Building was built in the 1950s (it had been the site of the Asheville Library in the 1890s), but this article suggests the graves were on the other side of the church, where the Campbell Chapel was built in the late 1960s.

Dr. Dickson was the son of Samuel Dickson (1748-1819) and the widow Mrs. Mary Neilson Bell (1760-1838), who married 20 Nov 1794 at Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina.

Dr. Dickson first married Mary Augusta Flinn (1805-1836) on 21 Oct 1821 at Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina. John and Mary were the parents of six known children, namely:

1. Mary Joana Dickson (1823-1824)
2. Andrew Flinn Dickson (1825-1879)
3. John Augustus Dickson (1828-young?)
4. Samuel Howard Dickson (1830-1860)
5. Henry Robertson Dickson (1836-1877)
6. Charles McIntire Dickson (1835-young?)

Like their father, both of the sons Andrew and Henry were Ministers.

After Mary died John remarried to (the widow?) Louise O'Hear (b. c1798 in SC) and had a daughter:

7. Sarah Dickson (1841-???)

In 1850 the widow Louise, and children Andrew (with his wife), Henry and Sarah lived at Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina.
