CRYSTAL LAKE - Violet Kraeplin, 89, of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Crystal Pines Health Care Center.

She was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Shade Hills, S.D., to Raymond and Anna (Karsten) Hager. On Nov. 14, 1942, she married Alfred E. Kraeplin in Crystal Lake. Together they ran a farm in Woodstock for many years. They retired in 1982 to Bella Vista, Ark.

She was very active at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Crystal Lake and United Lutheran Church Bella Vista. She was an avid bowler and participated in many leagues. She enjoyed playing pinochle, cribbage, golf, crafts of all kinds and was an avid Cubs fan. She will be remembered for her memorable laugh.

She is survived by her son, Laray Kraeplin; her daughter, Laurel Larsen; her sister, Evaline (Robert) Boilini; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred; and her two sons, Alfred W. Jr. and Leslie E. Kraeplin.

The visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the funeral home. In keeping with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the McHenry County Youth Bowlers Scholarship Fund.
