Silas was the father of 3 sons and 6 daughters. The oldest son died in Minnesota during the Civil War from medical complications. His 3 wives, 1 son and 1 daughter preceded him in death while living in Vermont. In 1876 Silas sold his farm and left his 2 oldest daughters, Juliet Turner and Roxanna Lasell in Minnesota and moved to Independence Twp, Osborne County, Kansas where he bought a 160 acre farm. In 1881 he was struck by lightening and died the following year from possible complications of being struck by the lightening. His youngest son, Plummer Lund inherited the farm and then sold it in 1902. Two daughters lived nearby: Chloe, Mrs Elisha Thornburg of Independence Twp; Australia, Mrs Dave Kaser of Covert Twp. Daughter Orissa Thurber was living in Iowa.
