On the afternoon 20 Oct 1951, Alvin was trimming a tree in the backyard of their home. He suffered a broken hip from the fall. He developed pneumonia during his recovery and died on 03 Nov 1951 at the age of 79.

Alta had diabetes for a number of years. Records note that she was also plagued by emphysema and chronic brain syndrome.
She suffered a massive heart attack the day after Christmas in 1967. She was taken to St. Louis City Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her death came 10 days before what would have been her 85th birthday.
She was survived by 2 daughters, Catherine Brandriff and Opal Holstom; 1 son, Monroe Winston (and her obituary includes another son, Fred Winston); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and extended family members.
In addition to all 3 of her husbands, Alta was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Maxine Duncan; and her mother and father.
The funeral began at Kriegshauser's South Funeral Home on South Kingshighway in St. Louis, then went to St. Cronan's Church for 8:30 services. Burial was at Laurel Hill.
