Alberta Winston
APRIL 12, 1954 – JULY 14, 2020

Alberta Winston was born Alberta Jones to the late Henry Bryson Jr. and Mable Lene Hughes on April 12, 1954 in Argo, Alabama.

Alberta was blessed to have with two mothers. At nine months old, Alberta and her brother, Frank, moved to Burrel, CA with their mother, Eddie Lee Winborn. Alberta attended Bender Elementary and later Riverdale Elementary when they located to Lanare, CA.

Eddie Lee would take both kids with her when they were little to the fields to pick cotton. She would tie their lunches around their wrists and pulled them in the sack until they were big enough to earn their own money picking cotton and tending to the weeds in the field.

Alberta attended Riverdale High School. She welcomed her first child, Sandra Young. She met and married the love of her life Albert Mason Winston in 1974. She welcomed two sons: Albert, Jr. and Otis J. Winston.

Alberta was a childcare provider. She took care of her brother Frank's two oldest children when he was going through the California Highway Patrol academy. Without Alberta's willingness to assist in caring for Frank's children, he would have never made it through the academy. This was a great deed Alberta did for her brother.

Alberta enjoyed visits and phone calls with her sister, Pamela and brother, Johnnie where they would laugh, visit various locations and talk about life.

Alberta loved her family very much. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made people laugh and was a presence in every room. Her granddaughter, Nina, said it best, "God knows she loved watching all of us grow up."

Alberta was preceded in death by her late husband- Albert Mason Winston, Sr.; Mother, Eddie Lee Winborn; 3 Siblings- Jeffrey Hughes, Kenny Hughes and Carol Hughes and her nephew, Ryan Smith.

Alberta leaves to rejoice her homegoing: Brothers Frank Smith (Chavonne) of Hanford, CA. and Johnnie Hughes of Atlanta, GA; One sister, Pamela Hughes Harris of Adamsville, AL. One daughter, Sandra Young; two sons Albert, Jr. and Otis J. Winston all of Lemoore, CA, grandsons Marlon Bruno, Davon & Aaron Winston and one granddaughter, Serena Mendoza; 4 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
