Barbara Evans Ferris, 92, of Scottsdale , passed away suddenly on September 6, 2007. Born in Chicago, Barbara arrived in Scottsdale in the early 1920's with her parents, Sylvia Evans Byrnes and Robert Evans, older siblings, Denver and Marjorie, all of whom pre-deceased her. Her grandmother, a renowned artist, Jessie Benton Evans arrived in Scottsdale in 1911. During her youth in Arizona, Barbara attended the Normal School in Tempe and started and ran the Jokake School on the Jokake Inn premises. Barbara married George F. Ferris in 1942. They lived in Honolulu during World War II where she was a Red Cross Volunteer. They later lived in New York City and Stamford , Connecticut for 25 years. Barbara was co-president of Ferris-Manning, an interior design firm in New York City . She was a charter member of the Paradise Valley Country Club and was active with the Scottsdale Historical Society. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Carole Kroeger and son-in-law Hal Kroeger of St. Louis, MO; step-daughter, Jane Gillingham of La Quinta, CA; grandsons, Rocky Kroeger of St. Louis and George Kroeger of Flagstaff; 3 great grandchildren; 6 nieces, 2 nephews, 4 grand nephews and 3 grand nieces. She will be missed by her many "adopted" daughters and friends. Services will be private. Contributions may be directed to your local Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
