Opera Singer. Considered one of the most versatile voices in Spanish Opera. Born in Tíjola, Almería, she studied at the Madrid Conservatory and made her 1913 debut as Margarita in "Mefistofele." Campiña made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1926 in "Otello." In 1934 she first appeared at Milan's La Scala in "Tristan und Isolde" and Mascagni's "Nerone." In 1940, she was acclaimed during the Universal Exhition in New York. After touring by Europe and South America, Campiña settled in Buenos Aires, where she died. She retired from the stage in 1948.
