Stella V. (Murphy) Lansing, 86, a longtime Northampton resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sep. 20, 2012, at Hadley at Elaine Manor after a brief illness. Stella was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Pittsfield, the daughter of the late Robert J. and Stephanie (Miske) Murphy. She was raised and educated in Northampton and was a graduate of Northampton High School. Stella trained for a career in nursing and worked at the Northampton State Hospital in her younger years. After marrying Richard G. Lansing, Stella began a new career as a homemaker, raising her family and caring for their home. They spent many years in Northampton before moving to Palmer over 20 years ago. Stella leaves her beloved husband, Richard G. Lansing; her children, Richard F. Lansing, Douglas H. Lansing, Robert Lansing, Elizabeth and Lisa Lansing; nine grandchildren, including Scott, Eddie and Phuong; and seven great-grandchildren. She leaves her devoted sister, Mary Baceski and several nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by a sister, Julia M. Warawka. According to the obituary, she is buried at the Saint Mary Cemetery in Northampton, MA.
