Marvin Spruill, 98, went to his eternal reward on September 17, 2020 surrounded by his wife Teresa, and daughters Carol Ouzts (husband Larry), Cindy Hitchings, loving caregiver Terri and Steve.
He was born on June 16, 1922 in Roper, NC, the second of eleven children of Walter and Velna Spruill. He is survived by his loving wife Teresa whom he called his second marital gift from God; his daughters, Carol Ouzts and her husband Larry, and Cindy Kay Hitchings; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Emily Ouzts Evans (Jerry) and Larry Ouzts, Jr. (Rachel); and seven precious great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are two sisters, Mildred and Hazel; five brothers, Raymond, Earle, Bobby (Georgia), Jimmy (Deborah), and Phil (Marie).

Marvin was predeceased by his first love Marjorie Asby Spruill. They lived in marital bliss over 40 years. He was also predeceased by a brother, Walter; and sisters, Pat and Andrea.

Marvin was a member and past Master of the Norfolk Masonic Lodge #1 AF & AM for 63 years. In recent years, he transferred to Lodge #196 in Virginia Beach.

He was a member of Suburban Christian Church for 40 years during which he served as Chairman of Official Board and Trustee Committee. He was an avid sports fan; his greatest love was golf and his two Hole-in-one’s were his proudest achievements.

Marvin was a veteran of WWII serving as a Boatswain’s Mate on LST 352 and LST 1002 first in the Mediterranean and later upon transfer to the Pacific in the Okinawa and Iwo Jima Campaigns.

After the war, he continued to serve in his professional career with the Federal Civil Service at Norfolk NAS. He worked under the Naval Air Systems Command in the Real Estate Division until he retired on February 10, 1979.

He introduced his wife Teresa to Southern Hospitality and food. They bought a home on the Albemarle Sound and enjoyed many years there with family gatherings all summer enjoying fishing, boating, and loving the surroundings of God’s beautiful and peaceful creation.

We would like to give a special thanks for his loving caregivers, Terri, June and Steve.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at Suburban Christian Church in Virginia Beach. Viewing will be from 10:00-10:45 AM, however due to Covid-19, the family will not be greeting guest. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
